Work in Progress Wednesday Wk 3

December 15, 2010

Well there is some more progress at Mille but its a busy time of year. That said I am trying to be disciplined about this and record what I have done this week.

Last week I mentioned I did not like the roof line of this building so I decided to change it. In fact not only did I change the roof line but I added another half floor to the mill.

As you can see I used  a sculpt roof to soften the roof line.

I have also worked on building rockeries which will act as retaining walls as much of the hill side areas are so steep my poor little ave is tripping and falling all the time. So I decided it was necessary to have some level areas.

In fact building rockeries can be addictive. I am still making plants and yet to plant them out which is why things look bare.

However to my utter dismay I already have weeds!

4th InWorldz blogger challenge – tips for new bloggers

December 14, 2010

Well I am running late with the 4th bloggers challenge. Sorry, it’s the time of year when there is lots to be done.

Anyway Whiskey Day suggested for the 4th InWorldz blogger challenge that we  write a few tips for new bloggers. I am not sure these are tips as such as re-reading them they form more of a philosophy but for what it is worth here we go…

My top 5 are

  • 1 Be genuine particularly when writing about a virtual world as everyone is acutely aware that all communication is mediated by a screen.
  • 2 Share what knowledge you know and admit it when you dont.
  • 3 Just as there is a person behind the avatar remember that behind both writer and reader there is a person too.
  • 4 Blog in order to strengthen the social ties you make in World. A blog can be the ties that bind. When people meet you if they read your blog they can gain a sense of who you are and this builds trust and trust builds friendship.
  • 5 Don’t use a blog to create drama, slam and criticize others in order to bolster your ego.

As to the second part of Whiskys challenge, the first Pick I took InWorldz was for my profile. I regularly check peoples profile when I first meet them as you can get a sense of what they are interested in. So one of the first things I did was organise skin and hair etc.  in order to take a profile pick.   I took the photo in front of one of my paintings at the S&S Gallery of Fine Arts and am still using it.

Thats it for my challenge post! Make yourself a cuppa and swing by Whisky Shots and read the other entries.

Work in Progress Wednesday Week 2

December 8, 2010

It has been a very busy week. This poor little avatar has lumped bricks, mixed cement, worn out her gardening gloves, and worked really very hard on this build. I need new work boots, and more deodorant, you should see the state of my nails and my nose is sun burnt! After such a tale of woe I hope people still pop over for a visit. I promise I will not complain about my back and I will be a good hostess.

Let me show you what I have been doing.

As you can see from the beach area it is quite a visual sweep up to the old water mill.

This is the view from the side of the mill. There are some aspects of the building I am not happy with particularly the roof line. So that may change. The area needs to be softened with plants so I am moving forward at the moment probably to return to redo the roof.

The top waterfall is the source of the water that drives the mill. I should say did drive the water wheel as I visualize the Mill as being a restored historical building that has been converted and used as an art gallery, local coffee shop and garden center.

As you can see some nice vistas are starting to be developed. Lots of plants and trees are starting to soften the building.I plan a lot more in the way of vegetation.

Some nice walk ways and paths in the garden are also in development.

My friend the freebie Rooster (still without a name) points out the nice viewpoints to me particularly at sunset …

Even though he is the but of jokes provoked  by my silly sense of humor he does find some nice places to perch.

The rooster is by Gregg Legendary of Legendary Pets & Wildlife
Since SLURLs don’t yet work on this new grid if you search under a designers name (in this case Gregg Legendary) and go to either picks or classifieds you can teleport his shop.

Last week Deson of Denson’s Curiosity Shop started to document a build on Snake River of a Reception Center. Read his post and see what he is making.

Want to join me keeping a record of what you create?

Do you want to join me in documenting what you make InWorldz? It can be anything, clothing, buildings, avatars, furniture , hair, shoes, poses … anything made InWorldz.

If enough creators do it, people would in the end document the creation of a virtual world and catch a lot of history. What you made this week may seem trivial but it all accumulates into something larger than any individual.

Write about what you have made this week and then swing by here and leave a link to the post. Mention this blog to spread the word and tell other creators who write a blog about the suggestion.

Oh and by the way it is Wednesday in Australia  so I am not ahead of myself …

We have a bloggers group for InWorldz bloggers!

December 7, 2010

Well the news is I have started a bloggers group for people who blog about InWorldz. It goes under the highly original name of InWorldz bloggers. No doubt the group will grow and shape itself into something people enjoy and as that happens we can have events, get together etc. At the moment I am happy to see what people want from the group and let it develop naturally.
The charter reads

“InWorldz bloggers group aims to promote and showcase blogging about InWorldz and act as an area to exchange ideas, tips and techniques about blogging. It is for bloggers who write about InWorldz at least half of the time on their blogs.
The group promotes practices and habits that strengthen the community of InWorldz and InWorldz bloggers so no unnecessary drama please.”

Since search is not good at finding groups on this new grid (it is still in beta after all), if you search under my avatar name, Teal Etzel and in the groups area double click on InWorldz Bloggers, it will take you to the group to join. Or simply message me and I will happily send you an invite.

3rd InWorldz Blogger challenge

December 2, 2010

Whiskey Day of Whiskey Shots has announced the 3rd InWorldz blogger challenge

“Make it new. We all have our “spots” where we hang and feel happy inworld. Find a place you have never been in InWorldz, and go forth. Explore, snoop, and peek in the bedside table drawers. Doesn’t matter if it’s a shop or a sim or just a cool build that you stumble upon. Read the forums for ideas, or TP randomly on the map. Snap a picture or ten and show us what you found. And be sure to leave behind a nice thank you note and a half eaten donut so they’ll know you were there.  And if you meet a new person along the way, so much the better! Take pics of them too, when they aren’t looking.”

I cheated a little bit, as for an age I have been meaning to go and see Julia Hathor’s Creative Fantasy Home & Garden at Inworldz. I decided to use this challenge as a reason to visit and I am pleased I was provoked to so so as at the moment Creative Fantasy Home & Garden has a winter area that is decked out for the season.

The rest of the sim is just beautiful too.  I have decided that when I grow up I want to be like Julia Hathor. Her animals are so full of personality and character. You encounter them and simply smile.

I thought I would share some screenshots of Creative Fantasy the main sim where you can see her work.

Slurls dont yet work at InWorldz so to visit do a search for Julia Hathor as it is listed in her profile picks, teleport and you are an a magic land.
