BoHo HoBo Gallery of Art and Crafts

April 5, 2010

Last night I skipped through the Great Art Hunt and found some great galleries along the way. I was actually checking the stops and although there were the odd glitch most of them have been ironed out now.

One small art/craft gallery I was unaware of is BoHo HoBo.

Not only is their hunt prize, these Kuchi embroidered floor cushions, great,  but all proceeds from the gallery go to the Central Asian Institute, which is a non-profit organization. It’s mission is to promote and support community-based education, especially for girls, in remote regions of Pakistan and Afghanistan.

They state in their note card

“We believe that by educating children, especially girls, we promote peace in the region. There is compelling evidence that extending and improving education for girls has a huge impact on economic growth, on raising healthy and stable families. and lessening the powers of  extremist groups. (which usually recruit the poor and illiterate)
Educate a boy, and he leaves his community in search of a brighter future elsewhere, educate a girl and she brings her skills and knowledge to the aid of her village.  To educate a girl  is of the greatest impact to her community and the nation.”

It sounded good to me so I promptly blew my stipend for the week on some of their products!
